  a petition has been launched in australia to coincide with the child abuse royal commission's adverse findings against watchtower and jehovah's witnesses.

  for the last few days i've seen a nice green unread pm indicator even though there are no new messages (which is dreadfully sad).. not really a problem but thought it might be worth waving my arms and shouting about in a new topic.

  Sample Disassociation Letter please?

  i want to send a disassociation letter to the elders at my old congregation.

  how do i address it and what wording do i use?

  i know it's not something i have to do, it's symbolic for me.

  Sailor, just curious if that got them to avoid making the public announcement? And with what result? Does everyone still shun you/treat you as DFd? In what area do you live?

  DOC, I live on the Northeast Coast of the USA. I am not shunned. JWs are polite and cordial when we cross paths in town. We exchange pleasantries and family news. I recently had a lovely 2-hour-long chat with my former P.O. at our retinal specialist's office. This blew my mind. He had to have seen my letter!

  That said, I am clearly on a do-not-call list. They skip my door when in the neighborhood. I don't call them, and they don't call me. I like it that way!

  I walked away in 2011, and resigned in 2015. You can see my letter posted on this forum.

  I couldn't in good conscience remain a JW because of all of the pain I witnessed due to shunning and protecting pedophiles. I wasn't about to shun my DF'D son under any circumstances. I chose to write a letter of resignation (sent by certified mail from my high-powered lawyer) and threatened to sue them if they announced it from the platform. Best option for me. I don't have to deal with the shunning game in small town America, and I can live my life freely without looking over my shoulder. Life is good.

  I'm not DF'd, didn't DA, but I did send a letter of resignation threatening to sue them all if they announced it from the stage. They are not allowed to come to home or place of business in any official capacity. I am clearly on a do-not-call list, but have never been shunned in public. I don't call them, and they don't call me, and I like it that way. Like Blondie said-- inactive and stumbled. Whatever.

  My husband's PSA has been in the "undetectable" range since diagnosis two years ago, but now it is doubling every three months. The cancer was found upon physical exam by a urologist, not a general practitioner.

  My husband refused to go for a yearly checkup for his entire life (His JW parents are rabidly against medical professionals.) He finally agreed to go when he turned 62. Unfortunately, his primary care doctor missed cancer. The only reason they found it was because my husband had kidney stones. He denied feeling ill and all the pain all summer until he needed emergency surgery. (By the way this was a repeat performance of needing ER surgery to have his gallery bladder removed after the months of denial.)

  The urologist found the cancer. Large tumor, Stage III, Gleason Score 9. Very aggressive cancer. 50/50 chance that 8 weeks of radiation will keep it from metastasis.

  I'm not saying run to the doctor for every little thing. Just be f*cking reasonable.

  The Timing of Telling My Parents My College Plans.

  My daughter started college as a commuter at age 17 when I was still a JW. Her faded unbelieving father and I were committed to paying for all costs including commuting.

  The day our daughter turned 18, she put her bags by the front door, informed us that she had taken out a loan for the co-ed dorm and was moving out. This was exceedingly painful for me at the time, and our relationship was strained for ten years after. We are absolutely fine now.

  As a parent, I would vote for giving your parents a head's up, but only you can decide if you are ready to go it alone if they kick you out.

  A quick Biblical question....

  my wife and i were talking about how religions claim to be directed by god, yet god never seemed to let any of them know about the danger of sexual predatora to children.

  the it hit me, does the bible say anything on the subject?

  is there a thou shalt not diddle kids scripture?
